Ramblestone Fresco
Stoneshire Fresco
Wynncall Fresco
In wanting to continue to use local landscapes, landmarks, native peoples and lore as subjects for our subjects, one person kept coming to mind. He is one of our most famous and adventurous pioneers and the namesake for the largest town in our area. Throughout the deign process of the house we kept thinking rustic, weathered and worn, a house built back before power and roads (well within reason). I was thinking more to the Amish and a traditional Pennsylvania barn feel but sometimes in looking to your past you find a new path. Daniel Boone is our subject and his stories and past are not only driving the fresco but have also inspired the house and his look. With two fireplaces facing each other in the great room, we found a perfect spot for a pair of portraits. Located above the mantles within the rock niche Daniel will be on the south chimney looking at the highest peak of Grandfather mountain in a “what’s over that hill gaze” Across the room will be the constant in his life of unknown, his wife Rebecca. .With this information the artist retreated to his studio to ponder the possibilities and what landscape would justify Boone’s travels and tie these two portraits together We hope you enjoy this journey as we show through this website the process unfold. We will start with ½ scale studies of the subjects in the studio all the way through the finished product in Spring 2009.
Stay tuned...
