Luxury is in the Details....
While construction has just begun, Ramblestone has been underway for several years and in some cases several hundred years.
We have been finding old structures in and around the Tynecastle area and have asked the owners to let us reclaim items that could be used in future homes before they tore them down. We have found original glass windows and whitewash bead board buried behind framing in the oldest school house in Roan Mountain--some say it was built in the late 1800’s. We have found wormy chestnut inside a rock house in Foscoe built in the 30’s will make warm and inviting cabinets. More beadboard, chestnut and a rusty tin roof was found in a old cabin hidden from view by a 30 foot tall bamboo thicket. Some say old growth southern heart pine was long gone but they didn’t know of the thousands of logs buried in the silt of the cape fear river and currently being dredged up, dried and made into one of a kind brand new 200 year old flooring. How long will it last? Who knows but “Ramblestone” already has hers. With all these pieces of history in hand and several more in the works we decided the time had come to design an old world influenced timber frame with all the current amenities available.
The setting is a 1.9 acre site on Letterfern Drive in Tynecastle with an upfront view on Grandfather Mountain. The feeling will be that of a well worn quilt (lined in cashmere) perfect to start making memories old and new.
Keep an eye on what we are up to now and see how she takes shape. Our estimate to complete is spring 2008, but that is really up to her.
